July 23, 2006 How thankful we are for the sight of those black clouds when they roll in ready to burst open and shower God’s good blessings upon our parched land. Although the winds, lightning, and even flooding from the downpours can be a dangerous thing, it reminds us of the great power of Jehovah in the things of nature. As we anticipate the sunshine in the morning or the rains of the afternoon, we must remember that the impartial and benevolent God of heaven is the source of all these simple daily blessings. God gives “every good gift and every perfect gift…” (James 1:17). God does not discriminate on who gets the blessed sunshine and rain (Matthew 5:45). There are a few lessons for us here. God continues to give although many never thank Him. Do we need to receive appreciation in order to continue doing good to others? God showers everyday blessings on those who actually deny and mistreat Him. Do we refuse to help those who have mistreated us? God continues His blessings even though so many refuse to acknowledge what He has done or serve Him. Do we give to others only when we expect the favor to be returned? Jesus said there is a difference between the way the world thinks and acts and that of God’s people (Matthew 5:46-47). “Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven..” (Matthew 5:44-45). “As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men...” (Galatians 6:10). |
