October 8, 2006 It is an amazing thing to look back in the history of our nation and see the faith that our forefathers (and mothers) had in the very God of heaven, who now is being stripped of His rightful place in laws of this great country and in the minds its citizens. Yet, it is ironic to see the hopes and beliefs of these great leaders of the past still displayed in such a public fashion. God and the Bible still live in the official seals of many states. Arizona’s seal has the words “God Enriches.” Colorado has “Nothing Without the Deity,” and Florida’s great seal says “In God We Trust.” Hawaii became a state in 1959. Their seal states “The Life of the Land is Perpetuated in Righteousness.” Ohio’s state seal has a familiar phrase to many, “In God, All Things Are Possible.” When South Dakota was granted statehood they place on their seal, “Under God The People Rule.” The Great Seal of the United State of America has the providence of God represented by an eye, over which is the inscription, “He Has Smiled On Our Undertakings.” Our money contains the motto, “In God We Trust.” Even looking outside of the United States, in the Canadian province of Newfoundland, their motto is “Seek Ye First The Kingdom of God.” In a country that seems to be drifting further and further away from
God, we need to look back to the attitude and beliefs of our founding
fathers. We still hold their legacy in our hands. May we ever remind ourselves
and our children, that the nation that fears God will prosper. “Righteousness
exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs
14:34?). Again in 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are called
by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn
from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive
their sin, and will heal their land.” Pray to God to heal our land!
