Politics is always a hot topic, especially in an election year (or the months and months leading up to it)! Everyone has an opinion as to how things ought to be done in the government process. How fortunate we are to live in a country where we have the freedom to openly voice that opinion!

As a Christian we must conform to God’s will in all things. Whatever issue is at hand, our “opinion” should be His opinion and our “voice” should be His voice. Therefore whenever we express our political views they always will be tempered with God’s moral standards that we can read in His Word..

We all are concerned about investments, taxes, social security, retirement, national security, insurance, civil rights, the worth of the dollar, terrorism, and the warm. But far too often we see some Christians getting so caught up in the “politics” of things that they forget the basic precepts of God.

Can we endorse a candidate who promises tax reform all the while he promotes the shameful and horrible practice of abortion? Can we support a candidate who says he will take positive steps to make healthcare more affordable and ignore the steps he has taken to advance the homosexual agenda? Can we vote for a candidate who promotes same-sex marriage with all the legal and social rights that are found in heterosexual marriages, just because we think he will make sweeping changes to make our country safer? This is not off the cuff, here. As I write this, many of the candidates for president are planning a meeting with some of the leaders in the homosexual community. It will be interesting to watch and see what they discuss and decide among themselves.

We may have the idea that we should separate our feelings about politics from those of religion, but is this really what God wants? Godly ways and morality should permeate every aspect of our lives. Our “voters guide” should be the Bible. If we cast our vote using God’s view of things, the results will be all the social, economic, and political changes we all hope for (Proverbs 3:5-7; Daniel 4:25). Remember, we ought to obey God rather than men (Acts 5:29).
