December 16, 2007 Because God has ordained government authority to keep law and order in human societies (Romans 13:1-7), Christians must always remember to continue to pray for the current leaders of our country, regardless of who they may be! The children of God are given the command to “Honor all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the king” (1 Peter 2:17). By principle this applies to the president, senators, representatives, or any other federal, state, or local government official. Paul said it this way, I exhort therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, giving of thanks be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior” (1 Timothy 2:1-3). We are confident that God looks down upon us and our country. He watches over the faithful as well as those who do not believe or acknowledge His presence (Daniel 4:17, 25). As we have said many times, the righteous remnant can have a powerful influence on God’s dealing with nations and governments whether they are believers or not. The lack of faith on the part of God’s people also reflects on His treatment of those nations. The Old Testament stories of Israel and Judah, and the nations around them, prove this to be true. Today’s political scene is growing more and more challenging. There is much to sort out in trying to make an educated decision on the best choices available in our upcoming elections. As the faithful remnant, we must continue to stand for truth and right,
so that God’s blessings will increase for our great nation. May
the children of God continue to present themselves righteous before their
fellow citizens that an influence for good might be known (Matthew 5:14-16).
May Christians put on the armor that God has provided (Ephesians 6:11-17)
that evil might be defeated as we continue to “fight the good fight
of faith” (1 Timothy 6:12). May God’s family continue to offer
their prayers unto Him on behalf of our leaders. May we learn to respect
and appreciate our country’s roots, calling for a return to the
godly principles and morals set forth in the Bible and generally believed
by many of our forefathers. May we never forget that even in these uncertain
times, that the Almighty God of heaven is still in charge.
