KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS

In John 14:15, Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.” He also said in Matthew 28:20, “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” What has Jesus commanded of us? As we read and study the Bible we see the many commandments of Jesus.

LOVE ME

This is the first and greatest command. A lawyer once asked Jesus, “What is the greatest command?” Jesus answered this question in Mark 12:30 when He said, “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.” We are to love Him with every aspect of our being. We love Him with all our heart, our feelings, and our emotions. We love Him with all our soul, our actions, and by the way we live. We love Him with all our mind, our intellect, and our thoughts. When it comes to our love for Jesus, we are to feel it, think it, and act upon it (Proverbs 4:13; Matthew 6:21; Proverbs 23:7; Philippians 1:27).

TRUST ME

If we love Jesus as we ought, we will put all of our faith and trust in Him (1 Timothy 4:10; Hebrews 2:13; 11:6). If we trust in Him we will put Him first in our lives (Matthew 6:33). Jesus tells us that if we do not put him first, even above our own family members, we are not worthy to be His people (Luke 14:26-27). If we trust in Christ we will lean on Him in time of need (Matthew 11:28-30).

TELL OF ME

Jesus gave us the Great Commission wherein He tells us to “go and teach all nations” and “go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Matthew 28:19; Mark 16:15). We have been given the command to teach and preach the Word of God. However, not everyone that we teach will accept and obey, as Jesus taught in the Parable of the Sower (Matthew 13). Our responsibility is to teach while their’s is to accept and obey.

WORSHIP ME

Jesus and God are one and the same (John 1:1). Jesus said in John 4:24, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” We worship in spirit or with the right attitude toward worship, that being the desire to worship God as He desires to be worshipped.

We worship in truth, or according to the Word of God, for Jesus said, “Thy word is truth.” (John 17:17). We are commanded to attend the worship services and not forsake the assembly (Hebrews 10:25). We miss out on so much when we are not in attendance.

FOLLOW ME

We are to follow the example of Jesus in love (John 13:34-35), in holiness and righteous living (1 Peter 1:15), in perfection (Matthew 5:48), and in obedience (Matthew 26:39).

Let Not Your Heart
Be Troubled

Whenever I am troubled
and lost in deep despair
I bundle all my troubles up
and go to God in prayer….

I tell Him I am heartsick
and lost and lonely, too,
That my mind is deeply burdened
and I don’t know what to do….

But I know He stilled the tempest
and calmed the angry sea
And I humbly ask if in His love
He’ll do the same for me….

And then I just Keep Quiet
and only thoughts of Peace
And if I abide in Stillness
my “restless murmurings” cease.

A smile can add
a great deal to
one’s face value.

I Don’t Know About Tomorrow
Hope C. Oberhelman

I don’t know about tomorrow,
What may come along the way;
I only know that God is with me,
And will help me face today…

I don’t know about tomorrow,
Or remember all that’s past,
But God will grant me
strength and courage,
And make each precious
moment last…

I don’t know about tomorrow;
What new things may lie in store,
But I know that God will lead me,
As He’s always done before…

I don’t know about tomorrow,
But God will hold me in His hand;
He will fill me with His blessings,
And will help me understand!!!

Responses & Prayer Requests
Our newest sisters in Christ, Crystal Byrnes and Jade Williamson came forward last Sunday asking for our prayers. These young women need our prayers and support as they struggle with issues in their young Christian life. On Wednesday evening Susan Stallard asked the congregation for prayers and forgiveness. She is seeking wisdom and courage to continue to move forward in the good work that she does. Sarah Schneider also came forward asking for our prayers. Sarah is not a member of the church. We will be studying with her.

Building Fund
Sunday Is Today!

Every donation over and above your regular contribution is appreciated. Our building fund is an ongoing fund that helps to take care of the many projects and repairs that come up from time to time. For example; repairs are going to be costly on the AC unit in the old classroom area. The entire system was replaced with a quieter, more efficient Carrier system. We appreciate our deacons for their diligence in keeping up with these things so that we can enjoy the use of our building facilities.

Fellowship Dinner
Next Sunday!

Meeting
We are returning to our regularly scheduled meetings on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month. Mark your calendar for September 17th at the Steele’s house. We will start at 7:00 p.m.

There is a thank you note on the bulletin board from Hazel Philpot. Be sure to stop by and read it.

Adult Class Books
In our Sunday morning adult auditorium class, we will be starting a new study soon on the Holy Spirit. This has always been a widely misunderstood topic in the religious world, but error is growing in the brotherhood as well. We are using the same format as we have been using for this class. If you would like a copy of the new book, please sign the list on the bulletin board. There is no cost to you!

WHAT I COULD DO IF
I WANTED TO

Author Unknown

If I wanted to, I could help make the church the most wide awake and working church in all the world.

If I wanted to, I could visit members who are sick or home bound and find other ways of helping them.

If I wanted to, I could attend Bible classes regularly and encourage others to do the same.

If I wanted to, I could show more devotion in worship and receive much more good from the services myself.

If I wanted to, I could profit more from the sermon by not resenting the truth when it reveals some of my weaknesses.

If I wanted to, I could tell others about Christ and His church and lead them to him.

Of course, this all depends on what I want to do. I could be an honor servant of the greatest of all kings. I have the ability — if I really want to.
