Some Thoughts For Parents

If a child is taught he is part of the theory of evolution,
He will look upon himself as an advanced animal.
But if a child is taught that he is created in the image of God,
He will look upon himself as an immortal soul.

If a child sees the Bible is only read in church assembly,
He will look upon it as unrelated to daily life and education.
But if a child sees the Bible read and obeyed in his house,
He will look upon it as a guide to life and eternity.

If a child is taught that he is his own authority,
He will look upon all other authority with disrespect.
But if a child is taught that God and His word are the final authority,
He will look upon all authority emanating from Him with respect.

If a child is taught that there is no absolute truth,
He will look upon morals as subject to his emotions of the moment.
But if a child is taught that God’s word is absolute truth,
He will look upon morals as subject to firm Biblical precepts.

If a child is allowed to read profane and foul literature,
He will look upon life as permissive and perverted.
But if a child is encouraged to take moral responsibility for his own thinking,
He will be spiritually minded with an emotionally healthy outlook on life.

If a child is taught that parental discipline is an infringement upon his rights,
He will look upon his parents and teachers with contempt.
But if a child is taught that discipline is of God and for his eternal good,
He will look upon his parents with love and respect.

Wrong Is Always Wrong
Pat McGee

In a period of loose and sagging morals, Satan provides many rationalizations for improper behavior. Those who would live faithful lives must not be "ignorant of his devices" (2 Cor. 2:11). Wrong is always wrong despite our efforts to excuse our actions.

Wrong Is Wrong, Even If You Don't Get Caught. Let us remember that "the eyes of the Lord are in every place beholding the evil and the good" Prov. 15:13.

Wrong Is Wrong, Even If You Do it for a Good Cause. The honorable purpose does not justify a dishonorable deed or word. The end never justifies the means. All "sin is transgression of the law." 2 John 9.

Wrong Is Wrong, Even If Others Are Doing Worse Things. It will be of little comfort to you in the day of judgment if you should be lost, knowing that others did things which you considered to be worse than your sins. Remember, "The thought of sin is foolishness" (Prov. 24:9).

Wrong Is Wrong, Even If it Doesn't Bother Your Conscience. The conscience-can be trained or educated to accept wrong-doing, and even an honest sin or evil done in sincerity—is sinful in the sight of our holy God. “...What ever a man sows, that shall a man reap" (Gal. 6:7).

Wrong Is Wrong, Even If it Is Commonly Considered Acceptable. The Bible says, "Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil" (Exodus 32:2). The Christian should "enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it and pass away" (Prov. 4:4,5). "Prove all things and hold fast to that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil" (1 Thess. 5:21,22).

Remember, There Is Never a Right Way to Do a Wrong Thing!

Because of the uncertainty of our economy,
people who have money to invest are extremely
careful about where they put their money.
Solomon, however, said that there is something
that gives a better return than money.
“Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
and the man who gets understanding,
for the gain from it is better than gain
from silver and its profit better than gold”
(Proverb 3:13-14).

Misaligned Priorities
Alan C. Cole

We all have very busy lives. There's always something that needs doing or somewhere to be. It's easy to forget what is really most important in this fast paced and time consuming age in which we live. The Lord's words found in Matthew 6:33 help in keeping our priorities in proper order. "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

We learn from the Lord that spiritual matters must come first. God, Jesus, the church, Bible study, salvation, etc. must stay at the top of our priority list. This means worship must come before a pleasure boat ride. It also means Jesus and his desires must precede our jobs. Seeking the kingdom of God first, furthermore, means assembling for Bible study must come before sporting events.

No matter how busy life may become, spiritual matters must remain in first place. A serious problem exists when the Sunday evening and Wednesday evening attendance is 58 percent less than the Sunday morning worship attendance. The problem could be quickly resolved by realigning our misaligned priorities. We should all be fired up about putting the kingdom of God first. Then everything else will fall into its proper place.
