Hunger for God's Word

Be Strong, Be Well — Thursday, July 16

When we look at the writings of the Old Testament, we’re impressed by the way David and other writers, were able to make God the center of their lives. To them, everything in this world was tied to Jehovah God.

With this viewpoint, it was a very natural thing to go to God in prayer with everything from praise and honor, to requests and pleadings, to talking to God about their plans and endeavors. Basically there was an urgency for every detail of their lives to be spread out before God’s great throne and judgment seat.

Oh, how we must find this same passion and hunger for God and His word. And it is very possible. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6).

Paul expressed it as complete surrender to God and His will. “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).

May we strive to cultivate the same attitude these great men had. Everything about us should be about God. —Chris
