Be a Good Example

Be Strong, Be Well — Wednesday, July 29

“Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern” (Philippians 3:17).

It is such a great blessing to have people in our lives who are wonderful examples of faith. We all struggle from time to time. There are so many circumstances, challenges, and bumps in the road, we don’t always maintain the kind of faith we would like. Just ask Elijah (1 Kings 19).

We need those who stand out, stand tall, stand firm in their faith and trust in God—brothers and sisters in Christ we can look to and be encouraged to hang on and grow stronger.

On the other side of things, remember we also are being watched by others. Paul told young Timothy to “...be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12). And, “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1).

We have heard it said so often, it’s not how many times we fall, but how many times we get up. We may fail to maintain a level of faith that we desire, but our faith can recover and still grow. Go ask Elijah again, as he was honored to appear with Jesus in His transfiguration! (Mark 9:4).

God be thanked, we have those who stand before us, who have not given up—those who continue to grow and share that enduring faith with us. —Chris
