Stand in the Light

Be Strong, Be Well — Wednesday, July 15

Though the days are dark and uncertain, we have the Light of Jesus Christ. The Christian need never be in the dark.

Light is a favorite word of John the apostle. It appears 30 times throughout his writings. He begins his gospel account with the Word, God, coming into the world as a man. From verse 4 through 9, he uses the word light seven times. Four of them are capitalized referring to the God-man, Jesus Christ.

“In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.”

Through Christ we are given hope in this world of darkness. It’s dark because of sin, condemnation, and death. The light of our Savior shines brightly into the hearts and minds of those who believe, to help us maneuver through the journey of life, finding our way to heaven’s gate someday.

“For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6).

Let’s keep ourselves from those dark places of discouragement, hopelessness, and despair. Keep using the light of God’s Word to brighten our way on the strait and narrow path. “Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). —Chris
