The Golden Rule is a Blanket Rule
Be Strong, Be Well — Thursday, June 25
The “Golden Rule” is appropriately named. “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 7:12). This is truly golden, because it is the answer to all of society’s woes.
Just imagine if this rule was applied across the board, with no exceptions—in every relationship (within or outside the church), in every personal interaction with others (acquaintance or total stranger), in all business dealings (small or corporate), in every government discussion and decision (within our own borders or internationally), with any person, regardless of race, color, language, sex, social status, and yes, any religious belief, (including Atheism).
We hear so much about people wanting to be treated equally. And who doesn’t want to be? We should treat everyone using the same rules and the same standard. And here it is. Everyone should be treated just like they want to be treated. Jesus intended for this to be a blanket rule for everyone to follow.
Again, we can only imagine how very different our world would be if only the “Golden Rule” was applied. —Chris
