What Is Your Worldview?

Chris' Corner -- Sunday, March 20, 2022

Everyone holds to some worldview. A worldview is a set of fundamental beliefs and values that shape our actions. For Christians, we hold to a biblical worldview. We believe in God and follow the Bible as His pattern for our lives. For us, an ideal society would be where the majority of its citizens are Christians with this biblical worldview.

Parents have the most substantial influence on their children’s lives and serve as the doorkeepers for other influences. More than likely, children will develop the same worldview as their parents, at least early on. In turn, society will reflect the beliefs of its people in a variety of worldviews.

The most common worldviews will influence the beliefs and attitudes of leaders and lawmakers who shape a country and its culture. In the world today, we have countries predominately Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu, Atheist, etc., depending on their worldview.

The United States was once called a Christian nation. Unfortunately, the biblical worldview is losing some serious ground. According to a recent study, less than five percent of American parents, who claim to be Christians, possess a biblical worldview. Research also revealed the younger the parents, the less likely they hold to a biblical worldview. Think about it. Who is bringing the next generation into this world? What does this say about the future of this country?

Can we turn the tide? The study pointed out those who still do believe in a biblical worldview, are becoming less aggressive in their pursuit of teaching and converting people to the truth of the Bible.

The majority of people in our culture have a mixture of several worldviews. If they thought more about this, they would see how contradictory they are. You cannot hold to biblical principles and any other worldview. Could this be part of the problem? So many (even among so-called Christian people) are offended by the idea that there is only one truth.

Speaking on the topic of Jesus Christ, Peter said, “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). The Savior of humanity, said, “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins” (John 8:24).

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:8). “And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him—the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day” (John 12:47–48).
