Chris is a native of Michigan. He began his preaching career in 1972 when he served for two years as a missionary in Ivory Coast, West Africa. Upon his return to the States, he worked with his home congregation in Flushing for a short time before going into secular employment.
In 1977, Chris decided to move south and attend the Florida School of Preaching in Lakeland, Florida. During the summer break of 1978, he returned to Michigan and married his long-time sweetheart, Carrie McKerracher.
Chris graduated from FSOP in 1979. He preached for the Dade City congregation for a year, before deciding to take the work in New Port Richey, Florida. He and Carrie would make the transition once their first child was born. In the meantime, the Auburndale church asked Chris to work with them until they moved. He started his work with the River Road congregation the first of January in 1981.
Chris and Carrie have two daughters, Mrs. Erin (John) Allan and Mrs. Meghan (Adam) Tyler, and a son, Jared (Ginny) Steele. They have three grandsons; Seth, Noah, and Joel.
